Credit Suisse CEO Paid $19.4 Million In Cash And Shares Last Year
Zurich: Credit Suisse Chief Executive Tidjane Thiam received 18.9 million Swiss francs ($19.4 million or nearly Rs. 130 crore) in cash and share awards from the Swiss bank in 2015 even after requesting a 40 per cent bonus cut, according to its annual report.

Thiam, who took over at Credit Suisse from British insurer Prudential last July, is five months into implementing his new strategy for the Zurich-based bank.

For 2015, he received 4.57 million francs in total pay, 2.86 million francs of which was in bonuses.

His pay was topped up by 14.3 million francs in replacement awards in Credit Suisse shares to compensate for the cancellation of deferred awards from Prudential. The shares are vested over three years.

Prudential paid Thiam 11.8 million pounds ($16.6 million) in 2014, a 35 per cent increase on his 2013 compensation, following a bumper incentive plan payout in his final year in charge.

Thiam's predecessor as chief executive of Switzerland's second-biggest bank, Brady Dougan, made 9.7 million francs in 2014. Credit Suisse said it paid bonuses in 2015 to its five departing executive board members, including Dougan, totalling 21 million francs.

Can A Private Cloud Help Keep Buenos Aires Safe?

The Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires—called the world’s widest avenue—connects the waterfront and downtown of the Argentinian capitol to the surrounding residential communities. But even with 18 lanes (and a Metrobus corridor) running in two directions, the Avenida isn’t immune to traffic and congestion.
The population of the city nearly quadruples in size as “Every day, 12 million people come to Buenos Aires,” says Marucio Idiart, former CIO of the Argentinian Ministry of Security (Ministerio de Seguridad). “It’s a lot of traffic. So we must have a plan to deal with it.”
Unlike other cities in Argentina, which are patrolled by local police, Buenos Aires is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Security and is protected by federal police. Their mission: to ensure that millions of people, residents and visitors, can safely move around the city. Whether that’s millions of commuters traveling the Avenida, tens of thousands of soccer fans leaving River Plate Stadium after a football match, or a family of tourists visiting the Puerto Madero Waterfront, the ministry must control and secure 78 square miles of urban streets.

“We have a law enforcement resource posted, on average, in every 600 square meters of the city,” says Idiart, who left the ministry when a new government came into power in December 2015. “The ministry patrols every block once every hour, and we control that activity from a central location.”
That central location—or rather, locations—is one of three command centers operated by the ministry in Buenos Aires. Police patrols, including traffic management, are handled from an IT-powered hub that tracks the location of every security resource in the city in real time. Other command centers support emergency response (via 911 calls) and interagency coordination (in the event of a large public event, catastrophe, or social unrest). All three command centers benefit from a private cloud solution built by the ministry on Oracle technology.

Android N's new and improved data monitoring and handling features haven't triggered alarms at Opera. The Norway-based company says that its data-management app, Opera Max, is years ahead of the competition. At a press conference, executives with the company explained what makes Opera Max stand out from its rivals, and also laid bare the roadmap of the app.
The state of India's Internet connectivity - performance and reliability - is mediocre at best, said Arjun Bhatt, Director, Product Marketing and Partnerships at Opera Max on Tuesday at Cafe Public Connection, New Delhi, pointing to the Edge network on his LTE-subscribed Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone. He spent the next one hour discussing how his company's virtual private network app is fixing that for many.
Indeed, Opera Max is growing in popularity with users, and slowly spreading among enthusiasts. The app, released in 2014, now has over 10 million users, Sergey Lossev, Product Head for Opera Max at Opera told Gadgets 360 in a phone conversation.

Quantum Break Price in India Revealed; Exclusive to Flipkart

Hotly anticipated time-manipversion of the game is exclusive to Flipkart.

The news comes via Flipkart's gaming page on Facebook.
"Play as Jack Joyce, a person with time manipulation powers in a world where time stutters, making everything freeze except Joyce - Preorder exclusively on Flipkart!" a post on the retailer's Facebook page reads along with a picture labelling it a "Flipkart Exclusive."

The game also has a price. It seems that Microsoft India has learned a thing or two about its misadventures with its pricing for Halo 5 and Forza 6, pricing Quantum Break on par with what you'd pay for PS4 exclusives like Uncharted 4 by setting it at Rs. 3,999. Keep in mind that there is no Windows 10 physical copy of the game. The listing is just for the Xbox One. Also of interest is that the seller for it isn't Flipkart's own WS Retail, rather one by the name of RetailNet.
We reached out to Microsoft India for comment and will update this story if we hear anything from them. For its part, Microsoft's preferred retail partner Amazon does not even have the game listed at the moment. It's an odd decision considering that Flipkart's focus on gaming has waned over the years.
Developed by the studio behind the original Max Payne and Alan Wake, Remedy Entertainment, Quantum Break lets you gun down enemies in third person in addition to manipulate time and duck behind cover. We were surprised with how good this Xbox One exclusive looks, sporting slick effects and gorgeous visuals. Will the gunplay hold up though? Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out.

2016 Might Be the Year That Defines Xiaomi's Fortunes

2016 Might Be the Year That Defines Xiaomi's Fortunes

When Xiaomi first launched, the company set itself apart from rest of the smartphone market with several tactics such as online only sales, zero commercial marketing, a dedicated Mi forum, and more. However, as time has passed by, these tactics have either been copied by other smartphone manufacturers, or they have not been entirely successful. As things stand, 2015 was a bad year for Xiaomi. The company first had to reduce its sales targets and then failed to achieve the revised targets.
Its home market, China, remains the biggest market for Xiaomi. It has been the top smartphone vendor in China for several quarters now. However the same Chinese market is now becoming increasingly saturated, as shown by this infographic from IDC.

The slowdown in growth is further proved by the fact that practically every Chinese smartphone manufacturer has started entering India in search of growth and newer markets; LeEco, Qiku, Zopo, and Meizu all have entered India recently, even though the volume of the Indian smartphone market is a fraction of China's.

Apple's iCloud Could Soon Be Powered by Google's Cloud

Apple's iCloud Could Soon Be Powered by Google's Cloud

Apple, Microsoft, and Google don't see eye to eye on most subjects, until they have to. And it seems Apple is finding itself in a similar situation. According to a report, the iPhone maker has partnered with Google to leverage some of search giant's cloud power to fuel iCloud.

The Cupertino-based company has inked a deal with Google to handle some iCloud storage needs using Google Cloud Platform, reports CRN. At least, part of the reason for this collaboration is Apple's desire to cut its reliance - and hence spendings - on Amazon and Microsoft. The report adds that Apple will be paying Google a sum between $400 million (roughly Rs. 2668 crore) and $600 million (roughly Rs. 4003 crore) for the deal. The duration of the agreement isn't known.
Prior to this supposed tie-up, iCloud was reportedly powered by Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. CRN further says that Apple will not be completely chopping off its partnership with Amazon, though Amazon, in the light of the new partnership, will be getting less money. According to Morgan Stanley, Apple spends around $1 billion (roughly Rs. 6671 crore) annually on AWS, as cited in the report.
