Xiaomi, Flipkart Confirm 20,000 Mi 3 Smartphones Sold Thus Far in India
Xiaomi and Flipkart, putting an end to speculation about the total Mi 3 units sold in India so far,
have revealed in a press note that the total number of units sold in the
two flash sales is 20,000.
The company also confirmed that the second batch of Mi 3 handsets was sold out within 5 seconds. Notably, the second flash sale for the Mi 3 saw a different process altogether adopted by Flipkart - allowing users to add the handset to their cart at the start of the sale, and let them checkout the smartphone at a later time.
In a press statement, Xiaomi and Flipkart detailed, "The site saw an unprecedented 2,50,000 users simultaneously accessing the Mi 3 page shortly after the sale opened at 2PM today [Tuesday]. This traffic load was 4 times higher than the heaviest level ever experienced by Flipkart's infrastructure. At 2PM sharp, when the countdown timer on the Mi 3 page hit 00:00:00, users were able to instantly add the product to their shopping carts (resulting in liquidation of the entire inventory in just under 5 seconds) and were then taken to the payment and checkout pages which they completed at their leisure."
Xiaomi's global Twitter handle had also boasted about the second flash sale of Mi 3 in India, saying, "#GoneIn5Secs #Mi3 sold out for Mi India on Flipkart."
Xiaomi had claimed that the first batch of Mi 3 smartphones in India was sold out within 40 minutes of its availability.
Commenting on the sales, Hugo Barra, Vice President, Xiaomi Global, said, "We are completely overwhelmed by the demand for Mi 3 by our fans here in India and are working diligently with our manufacturing partners as well as our local partners and the user community here in India to bring more devices and deliver the best possible product experience with Mi 3 and other models to come."
